Dermaplaning in Crofton

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis (surface layer of dead skin) as well as the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face. It can also provide added improvements in the appearance of fine lines and temporary fading of pigmentation. Dermaplaning is safe for patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a superficial exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin. Minimizing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers.

This treatment may also be recommended to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as laser treatments or chemical peels. Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles which results in a more refined, smooth, glowing appearance

Dermaplaning is a favored treatment in the entertainment industry, specifically among models and actresses that have to use heavy makeup and are subject to harsh lighting and the high-def camera that enhance every flaw. Dermaplane will eliminate that annoying peach fuzz and removes all the dead skin cells, leaving the surface very smooth.

HOW IS DERMAPLANE DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL MICRODERMABRASION?

Both are forms of physical exfoliation, but how they exfoliate is very different. Microdermabrasion uses an abrasive tip to exfoliate the skin manually and suctions dead skin cells, which helps pull out debris out of pores around the nose, mouth, and chin. Dermaplaning safely scrapes off the top layer of dead skin cell and removes peach fuzz, leaving your skin beautiful and smooth.
Both treatments are good for almost everyone, and it could just boil down to your personal preference and skin needs at that time. However, those with acneic skin or those who have deep cystic acne should wait until your skin clears up before trying dermaplane. At Effective Medspa & Wellness Center we offer the Pore Clarifying Silkpeel Treatment that is great for acneic skin.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL?

Dermaplaning is a painless procedure. A gentle enzyme mask will be applied before treatment along with hot towels to soften the skin and pores for a more efficient treatment.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

About 30 - 45 min

ARE THERE IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS?

There is no side effects or downtime; you might be slightly red after the treatment. Because we are removing the dead skin, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun so we always recommend wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to prevent burning and damaging of the skin which can lead to hyperpigmentation.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?

  • No shaving, peels, waxing, or aggressive exfoliation one week prior to Dermaplaning treatments.
  • You should wait 7 days after receiving facial injections to receive Dermaplaning treatments.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE END OF THE TREATMENT?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with an improved tone & texture. Most of your peach fuzz will be gone, leaving your skin smooth and soft.

  • Use a gentle cleanser and apply a hydrator or moisturizer at least twice daily for a minimum of 7 days post treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible for a minimum of 3 days post treatment. If you must be in the sun, apply SPF30 or greater, reapply often, wear a wide brimmed hat, and seek shade when possible.
  • Avoid excessive heat 3 days post treatment, i.e. heavy workouts, steam rooms or saunas, etc.
  • Avoid chlorine for 24 hours.
  • Avoid facial waxing for 7 days.
  • Avoid facial injections for 1 week
  • Do not pick, scratch or aggressively rub the treated area.
  • No scrubs, polishers, or aggressive brushes should be used for 7 to 14 days.
  • Do apply serums as absorption levels will be elevated unless they are medical-grade and recommended from your esthetician.
  • You may experience slight peeling for the first few days. Slight windburn sensation and/or blotchiness is normal as well as tingling or slight burning sensation for the first 2 days following the use of skincare products.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET THIS TREATMENT?

Dermaplaning removes about 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so getting this treatment once a month will provide optimal results.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

$100 - $200

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER DERMAPLANE:

  1. Provides an advanced exfoliation; much deeper than you could give yourself manually.
  2. Reduces visible signs of aging by improving the texture of the skin and removing the dead skin.
  3. Hyperkeratosis is a building of dead skin that dulls your complexion and clogs pores. Dermaplaning reduces the dead skin and prevents the pores from becoming blocked which leads to acne.
  4. Your products will be absorbed better through the skin, which will allow them to be more active and productive.
  5. Smooth & glowing skin is the result of dermaplaning. The vellus hairs that make our makeup so cakey and intensify wrinkles will be manually removed leaving your skin soft and bright. Don't worry; your hair will not grow back thicker. Vellus hair or better known as "peach fuzz" is not stimulated by removing.
  6. Unlike waxing and threading, there is no pain with dermaplaning.
